FSA & HSA

FSA and HSA can be used for all prescription eyewear purchases including eyeglasses, contact lenses, eye exams and prescription sunglasses.

Many health insurance plans allocate funds to a healthcare spending account, either a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA). As we near the end of the year, many of us with these accounts have funds remaining that may not carry over into next year. These accounts are meant for you to use flexibly to support your health, and prescription eyewear counts as an eligible expense.

FSA is a “use it or lose it” plan that runs January 1-December 31. The funds must be used by the end of the year or else you lose your money.

HSA money rolls over indefinitely and can even be used for health care expenses in retirement. Using your HSA for glasses is a great way to save money, since the funds are taken out of your paycheck before taxes.

Common uses for FSA and HSA funds: health exams, eye exams, medical co-pays, medications, and prescription glasses.
